  I ate here last night, I had NY strip with Oscar topping baked potato the broccoli and some scallops. The steak was ok but not seasoned, the broccoli was plain steamed broccoli nothing more. Not all that impressed and given the price I paid I expected more flavor.
  Now let me talk about the decor, oh my god. What a mess.. I understand the place open in 1980 but come on. The smell was overwhelming, musty, old and never cleaned. No wonder they keep it so dark in there.
  I understand the cost of running a restaurant I own one myself but one rule is to keep it updated so that you attract more people. And why I am one the topic I think it is time that you clean or replace your carpet that will help with that smell.

  This place has been a staple in Williamsburg for decades for a reason. The Seafood is very good and the steaks are even better. The staff is very attentive and entertaining. I would recommend it as a first date or to bring your family as the atmosphere is so accommodating​ to both. It's just a very upscale dining experience without the upscale price.

  My fiancee and I had dinner here for the first time last night. I was craving fish and The Whaling Company certainly delivered. We started with the blackened tuna which we like to try every where its available. It was very well seasoned and had a very mild yet satisfying flavor. It did not taste old or fishy at all. I had the trout and my fiancee had the tempura shrimp. I haven't trout in long time and even though it wasn't as good as fresh from the stream (let's be honest, though, nothing compares with that) it was exactly what I was looking for. It was cooked very well and the breading was just the right amount. My fiancee enjoyed her shrimp. The sides where also good: flavorful roasted potatoes, steamed broccoli, and delicious warm bread. We left very full and very satisfied. Our server was also wonderful. She was very friendly and very fast: not only did our food come out very quickly but she brought us everything we needed sometimes even before we asked. I also like that she seated my fiancee and I in a more private booth. As far as the interior goes, it was very homey and comforting with dark wood booths and ocean-themed decor. If you a looking for good seafood in a cozy setting, this is the place to go.
